Even though they're very similar experiences, Mega Man X5 features some welcome additions to the formula that make the overall gameplay more intriguing yet I find that Mega Man X4 got everything right and doesn't need many bells and whistles. I thoroughly enjoy both Mega Man X4 and Mega Man X5. Well, it's been a long time since these games released but I have to pick an overall winner which is. I wish Capcom would release Mega Man X5: Less Irritating Edition at some point. Plus, although I like Alia as a character, whenever she interrupts the gameplay to explain some obvious facts, it frankly annoys me. Who thought that was a good idea? Probably the same person who thought that putting a time limit on the campaign was clever. However, one of the worst parts about it is that there are random events in the campaign that can dictate the ending.
One aspect of Mega Man X5 that disappointed me is the fact that it's very similar to Mega Man X4 and even Zero's unlockable moves are essentially the same albeit with a few different ones.
The collection of bosses is great, too, and if you play the original PS1 release, you'll notice that they're named after Guns N' Roses band members which is pretty strange yet undeniably funny. My favourite new aspect is that you can try and rescue Reploids across every stage and doing so elevates the level of challenge while remaining optional for those who just want to finish the game. Next, you can equip various parts to provide some boosts which may give you the edge next time you tackle a particularly tricky stage. First, you can unlock a few different armors for X including the brand new Falcon Armor and Gaea Armor. The question is: how could it possibly live up to Mega Man X4? For starters, it's a very similar game when it comes to gameplay yet Mega Man X5 boasts some welcome additions.
Mega Man X4 is a blast whether you're playing as X or Zero Mega Man X5Ī few years later, Mega Man X5 released and I just had to have it. On the other hand, the 2D action gameplay is so incredibly satisfying, responsive, and intuitive that even these downsides don't add up to much. Also, I found the overall level of challenge to be far weaker than the Super NES trilogy. For starters, I loved all of the intricate upgrades in Mega Man X3 including the chip upgrades, gold armor, and 4 distinct ride armors yet Mega Man X4 features only a simple selection of upgrades. With all of that being said, a few minor aspects somewhat disappointed me.

Throw in some cheesy voiced anime cutscenes, cool vehicles such as the Ride Chaser and a couple of Ride Armors, and the fantastic Ultimate Armor upgrade and you're left with one thrilling 2D action game.

Wow what a great game! It also features one of the best soundtracks in the entire series although the SNES version of Mega Man X3 contains my personal favourite music. Not only were the graphics sharper and livelier, you can play through the entire game as either X or Zero which is awesome, especially considering how fun it is to control Zero and his array of enjoyable abilities that he gradually unlocks from defeating the memorable collection of bosses. 2 incredible games with 2 awesome soundtracks what more could you want? Mega Man X4Īfter playing the awesome Super NES trilogy and finally getting my hands on a PS1, Mega Man X4 completely blew me away.
